Over 450 people gather in a small cove at the foot of the castle in Falmouth, Cornwall, preparing to swim a mile in open water. Unbelievably we've even managed to locate my mother amongst the crowds: look out for the yellow cap with hearts on - we both decided to personalise so that people would recognise us when we got out. (That's because we need people to spot us as neither of us can see once we take our goggles off and then we could just wander around aimlessly for ages…)
