I saw the real thing, not just a picture in a book, for the first time this summer in Basel. It astounded me. I suddenly got it. No amount of images really get across how this stuff works. Art that the public can truly partake in, physically take a piece of in fact. I love the generosity of it, and the questions this raises. Been reading a lot about him on trains and getting quietly very excited. (Another reason to travel plenty on trains…) Go wherever you have to to see it and be forced to think about what art is, how we read it as viewers and what the significance of the viewer's participation actually is.
